Upcycle jeans into party decorations

I am all about taking old stuff and turning it into new stuff. I recently took the instance to dye old curtains a new color so they could be reused and I’m plotting against an old tablecloth that I think will manufacture very nice napkins.

So, I was all excited when I clicked on Crafting a Green World and saw the directions for making denim bunting. Not certain what bunting is? Think of those strings of triangle flags draped across races, flea markets and used car extravaganzas.

All you need are some old jeans and some double fold bias tape, which you can buy or build yourself. compose a cardboard template to get the size right and get to your sewing machine.

I think the coolest part about that is that, after washing, the edges would be a bit frayed and softer looking. You

could add applique, draw designs with a permanent marker or sew on fabric patches in coordinating colors.

If you’re like me, that is one of those things you could prepare and reuse at birthday parties every year, adding bit and pieces to it by date and having it become more and more special. I’ve been using the same Advent calendar for close to 30 years now. I think I may have to compose a birthday bunting that will last just as towering.

I’m plus working on ideas to turn old t-shirts into a rug and old wool sweaters into coasters. What are some of your more creative upcycling projects?
