Tips for a greener trip to the coffee shop

There are at least two things that I whole-heartily endorse at every opportunity, they are: drinking coffee and riding bikes. In that post, I’ll attempt to do both.
When it comes to your daily caffeine ritual, it may not seem like the little things, the stir sticks, the sugar packets, etc. really amount to much in the grand scheme of things. As we’ve seen with the recent Starbucks controversy, sometimes seemingly small things add up when you do them every separate day.
- The ‘prep thereupon pour’ Method — Planet Green suggests that you add the cream and sugar before pouring your coffee, therefore eliminating the need for stir sticks. plus, I go for the bulk sugar container rather than packets (even when it’s not filled with raw sugar).
- BYOM — Just like the plastic bag, the use of paper coffee cups — not to mention those cardboard heat sleeve — is not only wasteful, but extremely widespread. Bringing your own reusable mug cuts down on waste and allows you to pick what corporate logos you want to carry around in public. whether, by chance, a very popular coffee chain refuses your mug, say see you later.
- Find a Bike-Friendly Coffee Shop — Some eco-minded coffee shops offer cyclists special benefits, kinda like a happy hour. One place even offers a free 12oz. coffee whether you ride your bike. Told you I’d find a way to work cycling into that post.
- Choose and Eco-Friendly Roast – Any true bohemian-esc coffee house should offer a selection of sustainable, organic, or at least fairtrade coffee beans. Even whether you’re accustomed to the taste of luxurious pre-digested coffee, I guarantee you, there are some pretty delicious organic blends on the market.
