Some Trash You Can Save

I really love having a week when I only put out one trash bag considering I’ve found sufficient things to reuse, recycle and compost. You might be surprised at some of the things worth saving from the trash can.

EcoSalon came up with 16 different things you can save from the trash for a better use - or at least another use - before they head out of your home. My favorite? Saving butter wrappers in the fridge or freezer to be used for greasing baking pans. It’s a pretty small thing, but I really believe all those small things add up. Some of the other ideas:

  • Putting together bacon grease, kitchen crumbs and some string to become a
    sort of suet bird feeder.
  • Saving food bits to assemble stock. We save the parts we trim off onions, carrots and celery - even the peels and skins - and put them into a freezer bag. When we construct stock we dump it in for our vegetable portion.
  • Using old make-up brushes to clean fragile items like camera lenses.
  • Remaking a worn ironing board cover into oven mitts or potholders.
