Be Freegan to Help the Planet - and Save Money!

A freegan is a person who eats found food and it’s an interesting profile of environmentalism (or frugality). There are lots of things that I do in the name of being green that other humans might not consider. I compost, garden, labor by cutting and splitting wood and stacking the woodpile. I buy less and cook more. I drive less and sometimes I even flush less.
But I don’t know whether I’m quite ready to be a freegan. Basically, a freegan looks for opportunities for free food that would be otherwise going into a landfill. I’ll confess, in college, I was always on the prowl for free food, but not like that. that involves dumpster diving for food that, while still edible, is no longer saleable by a grocery store or food business considering of sell by dates
and things like that. Due to the nature of that, a freegan is additionally a vegetarian as you wouldn’t want to eat meat that had been thrown in the dumpster. On the Freegan Kitchen website you can read more and even see a Freegan Kitchen cooking show video. that is a great way to divert even more from our already overfilled landfills but, it’s still a bit hard to imagine. Would you consider being a freegan? I guess it would be one way to save money in 2009.
