100 Companies You Should Not Support

As we head toward the new year and script our resolutions. Perhaps one of them could be to adhere to Sarah Scrafford’s list of 100 Companies No Environmentalist Should Ever Support.
that comprehensive list is broken down into segments like oil and chemical, energy, retail, health and beauty, and food. Some familiar names were listed like Exxon (who can ever forget?Apparently they have not improved.), Mattel (do they produce anything that’s NOT plastic?) and Nestle for their aggressive promoting of formula by breast milk in developing countries.
There were, however, some surprises. These are companies that I never thought of as poor considering their marketing is THAT good.
- One of J. Crew’s suppliers in China has been fined for releasing by ten million tons of illegal waste.
- L.L. Bean uses carcinogenic synthetic pesticides on their clothing.
- Wells Fargo has been giving financial support to not-so-environmentally friendly methods of coal removal.
- Innocent little Sara Lee has had to pay $5.25 million dollars for not adhering to ozone regulations.
- Despite the Prius, Toyota has lobbied against increasing fuel-efficiency standards.
